New Orleans 2001.
The national Associated Collegiate Press conference was held in New Orleans
this year, and 13 of us hard-working State Hornet employees flew 2,000
miles across the country to learn about journalism and see the city. I
think we packed as much into three days as is humanly possible.

We stayed in the Hyatt, across from the Superdome.
Looking down into the lounge made a unique picture.
Yes, we were in a city, and the view was impressive.
First things first: Eat
calamari in the French Quarter.
Second: See people throw beads on Bourbon Street.
Greg needed proof for a friend that he'd seen Hustler.
No, Greg couldn't get much more proof than this.
This was before the 'punching of Matt' incident.
Why sleep when it's only 3 a.m.? Time for...
...Josh's "Hi, this is the Concierge" prank calls.
Meanwhile, Matt tried to bodyslam Andy, who kept filming.
A new day dawned:
Time for a swamp tour
with a Cajun guide.
The boat tour lasted several hours; nobody got seasick.
We saw cute wildlife, including playful raccoons.
And some not-so- cute wildlife, such as alligators.
The alligators came up to the boat to eat marshmallows.
Others ignored us and simply sunned on logs.
The swamp lent itself to beautiful reflections.
A path winding into the trees begged to be explored.
Yes, the swamp tour was well worth the $22 price.
The next day, we
saw the rather large Mississippi River.
And an old cathedral whose name escapes me.
What's a city
without freedom of speech?
Before we knew it, we were taking one last group photo.
