I'm an exhibit

It's weird to think that articles I write are winding up as exhibits in litigation. Not only do the articles become pieces of evidence in a mountain of a lawsuit, but direct quotes go on the record because attorneys read them. Exhibit No. 816 is mine.

And there are more than eight hundred exhibits? That's a lot of evidence.

Well, anything in the public domain -- or anything obtained as a result of subpoenas or such things as public records requests -- can be used as evidence in court proceedings. That's happened to me before, near the end of the first murder trial I covered, but the fact that this is a federal lawsuit somehow made it seem bigger.

And yeah, that's a lot of evidence. About 816 pieces too many, if you ask me. ;-)
