A Reporter's Life

Kings fever

The Sacramento Kings have the loudest fans in the United States, and even military troops in Iraq are following the semi-finals, hoping to make it home in time for the finals. A photo of the fans is making the e-mail rounds, and I think that must have been a fun story to write.

(If, for some very strange reason, you don't know who the Kings are, they're only one of the Best Basketball Teams in the Country.)

DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT! Chris Webber is out for the rest of the playoffs. The Kings are done.

It's not over 'til it's over ... obviously your comments were posted BEFORE Sunday's awesome game! :)

Yep! If I were a superstitious person, I'd say the difference was because I painted my toenails purple during last night's game.

Posted by: Layla at 8:39 AM, May 12, 2003

I painted my finger nails pink ... what does that account for?

Posted by: jpb at 12:02 PM, May 12, 2003

I'm not sure what pink means, but I think you should keep them pink since it didn't seem to hurt. Then again, maybe if your toenails had been purple, the Kings would have won Saturday. Oh, but mine weren't purple then, either. Maybe -- Yeah, I'll stop with the conspiracy theories.

BAD LAKERS!!!

I watched some of most of the games and that had some bearing. Definitely. Maybe. Maybe definitely.

I am pulling for the Kings with rooting against the Lakers a close second. But the NBA playoffs are still no March Madness.

I'm the same way: Kings first, Lakers-hating second. But I am definitely an admitted Laker-Hater. The players themselves are simply good ball players, but I don't like the team and the Hollywood thing.

You guys suck.

Posted by: Sarah at 3:58 PM, May 12, 2003

I'm hoping the Warriors continue their uphill climb over the next few years. They'll always be my #1 with the Kings a close second. It is hard to closely follow a team that is inept for so long (glad I'm not a Clippers fan) but I always have hope. And the Kings were so bad for so long that I know it is possible to turn it around. Most of my apathy, though, isn't because of the Warriors struggles but more because of the luster coming off my view of the NBA.

Baseball is still king for me. The NFL and college basketball are in a tie for second with college football right behind. If I had my druthers between attending a college football game or pro, I'd choose college for the atmosphere. Hockey is fun but best live. When it comes down to it, though, there aren't many sports that I don't like. I even watched some bowling yesterday.

Ferrick, you'd get along with a sports writer I work with. He's basically a Bay Area fan, since that's where he's from, and he's very much a Warriors fan. I'm not a fan of TV baseball, and I've never been to a live baseball game, so that's not one of my favorite sports to watch. That topic is somewhat of an ongoing discussion I have with someone over e-mail, but we both agree that there are far too many pauses and delays during baseball games.

Posted by: Layla at 10:19 PM, May 13, 2003

I don't think baseball has any more pauses and delays than a football game. A quote I heard about football by a Brit, I believe is that American football is broken up by 3 seconds of action and then a regroup for a committee meeting. I love football but when you think about it, there is 60 minutes in a game, spread out over three hours. How much of that time is there actually live plays going on? 15-30 minutes? I really like sports where the non-stop action is subtle. Like soccer and baseball.

In baseball, during many of the pauses, there is still stuff going on. If someone is on base, there is even more stuff going on between pitches, strategy-wise. It is easy to miss, though. Sure, there are down times between innings but this gives you bathroom breaks and food runs and time to talk to your kid about what just happened. And the break time is pretty consistent. It does drive me crazy at times with the pitching changes at the end of the game that can go on forever. At least in the National league there is some strategy needed because the pitchers hit. In the AL, they'll change pitchers more frequently.

That doesn't drive me as nutty as at the end of a basketball game with all of the timeouts that are called, in addition to the extra foul shots to stop the clock. I've been impressed with most of the playoff games, though, where the coaches have let the players run themselves more.

You should go to a Rivercats game. And learn how to keep score. Sometimes that is all it takes to hook someone on baseball.

Oh, and stop yer cryin' you Lakers. Calling Sacramento the Queens...blubbering babies.

Actually, I think I'm going to a Rivercats game in July. But I have no idea about keeping score, other than the part about how you get a point when a runner makes it around all four plates. If it were up to me, he'd get an extra point if his slide into home plate was more than two yards long.

Almost every party grasps that it is in the interest of its own self-preservation that the opposing party should not decay in strength; the same is true of grand politics. A new creation, the new Reich for instance, has more need of enemies that friends: only in opposition does it feel itself necessary, only in opposition does it become necessary.... by casino games

purchase valium online at the cheapest prices you'll find.

To ensure the correct dose, measure the liquid forms of valium with a dose-measuring spoon or cup, not with a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist where you can get one.

its a little known fact that prescription medications such as valium can be bought legally over the internet. Prices are usually much lower than traditional bricks and mortar pharmacies.
