A Reporter's Life

Unfair Blair

Maddening news item of the day: Jayson Blair (the New York Times reporter who fabricated dozens of stories) is reportedly going to get $5,000 to write two measly articles for magazines.

I hold myself to strict standards and have never made up a source or a quote in the last three years. I guess that's why I'm not making an average of $2,500 per story.

Fiction or nonfiction? (Who can tell?)

Most reporters don't make things up. I've never made anything up or taken anything out of context either. It just isn't done. The guy is your basic asskisser and slimy backstabber and he in no way deserves this. Not only is he a liar, he's not even a creative liar. He lifted others' crap!

Hopefully, Blair will go away and become the broken man he deserves to be. It made me super mad.

Sincerely,
A fellow reporter

I would second the last paragraph of the above posting.

Blair is a loser who will never get a real journalism job. Instead, he'll sell his story a few times and live an unfulfilling life as a fake reporter. I think I'd rather take the est. $50 per story I get and be able to not only look at myself in the morning, but be respected for what I do.

And I will add that in my 10-plus years as a journalist, I, too, have never made up a source. A word? Well, maybe. :)

If pay is related to nonsense content, then maybe if you're tight for extra cash you could slip in the odd additional bogus fact so that your pay cheques increase, e.g.

"'He was running away from the accident - that's what made him stand out,' said a local resident, who was dressed entirely in felt and was smoking a pipe, the bowl of which bore more than a passing resemblance to Harry Truman."

The money will simply roll in.

Which magazines? I may have to write a letter in anticipation of the articles stating that not only will I never buy or read said editions, but will never buy any copies of the title(s) from here on out.

I believe one of them was Jane magazine. I can't remember the other one. They're doing it for "irony purposes" but that doesn't mean they have to pay him.

mygoditsraining: That is an excellent example, and I think our city hall reporter should work it into one of her stories about the council members trying to fire the mayor.

Ferrick and Brooke: Yes, one is Jane magazine. The other is Esquire. I am making sure I do not purchase their magazines.

Layla: This city hall reporter says "huh?"

J: This line: "'He was running away from the accident - that's what made him stand out,' said a local resident, who was dressed entirely in felt and was smoking a pipe, the bowl of which bore more than a passing resemblance to Harry Truman."

We must also suppose that before that time, the progress of reason will have gone hand in hand with progress in the arts and sciences; that the ridiculous prejudices of superstition will no longer cover morality with an austerity that corrupts and degrades it instead of purifying and elevating it. Men will know then that if they have obligations to beings who do not yet exist, these obligations do not consist in giving life, but in giving happiness. Their object is the general welfare of the human species, of the society in which people live, of the family to which they belong and not the puerile idea of filling the earth with useless and unhappy beings. by online gambling

review the facts and figures related to valium.

Posted by: valium review at 8:37 PM, December 26, 2004

Do not take valium if you have narrow-angle glaucoma. Diazepam may worsen this condition. Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease or have liver disease.

Posted by: pharmacy at 6:16 PM, December 27, 2004

its a little known fact that prescription medications such as valium can be bought legally over the internet. Prices are usually much lower than traditional bricks and mortar pharmacies.

Posted by: buy valium at 9:23 PM, December 27, 2004

Obtain the cheapest xanax by purchasing online. many people do not realize that bricks and mortar pharmacies artificially inflate the price of medications. because of comparison shopping on the internet competition is increasing and much lower prices are available.
