A Reporter's Life

Real dream

I tend to dream about work regularly, though I don't always remember a lot of my dreams. The ones I do remember are the ones that slightly wake me up, or the ones I was having when my alarm clock went off.

Sometime between around 12:30 and 7:30 a.m. last night (this morning, to be technical), I dreamed that a high school student had died. This was a work-related dream, because I covered an accident involving two pedestrians who were hit by a truck in front of a high school 10 days ago. As part of my job, I've been checking regularly with the hospitals on the girls' conditions. One girl improved to serious condition while this girl -- the one in my dream -- remained in critical condition.

Someone from the newsroom just called me. I knew what he was going to say. He told me the girl had died, and for a fraction of a second, I got mixed up between my dream and this real conversation. I interrupted him to ask what time the girl died. Around 7 this morning, he said. A half an hour before I woke up.

I didn't even let my co-worker talk because I was just too stunned. I had woken up this morning, thinking that I should call the newsroom and ask them to check on the girl's condition. Then I told myself I was being silly and bordering on superstitious. So I forced it out of my mind. But now it's back in my mind.

must be the Scottish gene...um, I think there's one. I don't think my side of the family gets premonitions about non-family members.
Then again, perhaps your brain just computed the facts and worked out the odds as well as the time.

Scottish gene? Well, there might be some sort of cultural disposition towards that sort of thing, considering the astonishing number of dippy girls I meet who confide in me (and, I suspect, everyone else they talk to for more than three minutes) that they're attuned to the spirit world, but I get the feeling that sort of behaviour is more prevalent amongst a certain type of personality than the Scots as a whole.

I'd hate to be psychic, myself. Liam Neeson could see into the future in "Krull" and look how much trouble it gave him.

Im Scotish and I knew one girl would not make it, but I fashion myself as a realist. Its the pragmatic side of illogic. Then again, I did not have a dream.

Yeah, I think part of it was the fact that I had a feeling the girl wouldn't make it. But I had no idea when, and it was just such a weird feeling when I woke up -- and again when I got that call.

I have weird dreams, anyway.

I call it journalist premonition. Remember, I dreamt someone would die during that big storm ... heck, I dreamt that storm was coming. Why was I the one that covered that hellish day? Hmmmmm.

cheap xanax is hard to come by in your local pharmacies because the prices are artificially inflated. Online stores have greater competition and are able to provide you with exactly the same medication at up to 30% off.
